Crafted Dental, Stirling: Venetian Plaster & Microcement

The reception at Crafted Dental in Stirling makes the practice’s identity tangible. A bespoke plaster colour and a logo embedded in microcement carry the branding into the surfaces of the interior, giving the space a character specific to the business.

Unico Venetian’s work brought together Beri Calce Travertino Romano Venetian plaster, in a bespoke colour matched to Crafted Dental’s branding, and Forcrete Micro Quartz Coarse microcement on the bespoke reception desk. The project shows how specialist finishes can connect a commercial interior’s visual identity with the details people encounter on arrival.

A brand colour translated into Venetian plaster

Matching the Travertino Romano to the company’s branding gave the specification a clear starting point. The colour belongs to Crafted Dental; the plaster gives it depth, texture and a presence across the room. Behind the reception signage, that relationship is particularly direct: the lettering and its backdrop form a single, recognisable part of the interior.

Travertino Romano is a travertine-effect decorative plaster whose character comes from both the material and the way it is worked. The application shapes the balance between smoother areas and more open texture. This gives the bespoke colour a depth that changes with the light and brings the texture of the surface into the brand’s visual identity.

For a bespoke colour commission, the reference colour is only one part of the decision. Texture, sheen and lighting also affect how the finished surface is perceived. A physical sample viewed beside the proposed signage, joinery and lighting is a useful way to judge the complete effect before committing to the wider application.

A bespoke reception desk in Forcrete Micro Quartz Coarse

The reception desk was finished in Forcrete Micro Quartz Coarse. It brings a second material into the scheme and gives the bespoke construction a continuous, hand-applied surface. Its pale tone establishes a clear reception point against the deeper plaster backdrop, while the material retains a character of its own at close range.

Coarse refers to the grain size within the Micro Quartz finish; the application and sanding also shape its final texture. This distinction matters when specifying a desk that will be seen from the entrance and approached closely. The broad impression of the piece and the quality of its surface need to be considered together.

Applying microcement to fitted furniture also brings the detailing into focus. External corners, returns and changes of level are seen at close range, so the construction beneath the coating and the way the finish meets adjoining materials deserve early attention. A bespoke desk needs to be considered as a complete piece, from its overall form to its exposed edges.

The logo embedded in the finish

The embedded logo is the most personal detail of the desk. Worked into the microcement surface, it uses a subtle change in texture and tone to make the Crafted Dental monogram visible. At close range, the mark and the surrounding grain can be read together.

There are two scales of branding within the reception: the prominent lettering on the wall and the quieter monogram on the desk. The wall sign is legible across the room; the embedded mark becomes apparent at closer range. Repeating the identity in this way gives the reception consistency while allowing each material to retain its own expression.

Planning the finish alongside the fit-out

Crafted Dental illustrates the value of considering specialist finishes early in a commercial interior. The colour reference, texture, fitted furniture and signage all influence one another. Discussing them together gives a designer or business owner a firmer basis for choosing the material and deciding where it will have the greatest effect.

Surface protection and day-to-day care also belong in that conversation. They should be agreed for the intended use of each surface, alongside the desired colour and texture. Bringing the specialist applicator into the discussion while the joinery and finishes are being specified helps connect the visual ambition with the practical demands of a working reception.

At Crafted Dental, the colour match and embedded logo make the specification specific to the practice. Together, they demonstrate the scope for Venetian plaster and microcement to carry a commercial identity through both architecture and bespoke furniture.
