Marmorino Throughout a Marchmont Home, Edinburgh

Venetian plaster can shape the whole interior of a home. At this project in Marchmont, Edinburgh, Unico Venetian applied Beri Calce Marmorino 300 to all walls and ceilings, with the colour matched to Farrow & Ball Dimity. Interior design was by Samantha Harrison Design.

The completed rooms show the finish across generous ceilings, arched openings, a kitchen, living spaces and staircases. Daylight from windows and rooflights reveals the hand-applied movement in the pale surface. Timber, stone and furnishings sit alongside it, with the plaster giving the different spaces a consistent background.

One finish across walls and ceilings

The scope of this project was all walls and ceilings, rather than a single feature wall. That makes the relationship between the surfaces particularly important: the ceiling is seen with the walls, the wall continues around an opening, and the same material appears again in the next room.

In the living spaces, the photographs show broad areas of Marmorino above and around the furniture. Its tonal variation is visible without introducing a separate pattern or colour scheme. Across the kitchen, the finish continues up to the higher ceiling and around the rooflights. The marble worktops and timber cabinetry remain distinct materials within the room.

Colour matched to Dimity

Beri Calce Marmorino 300 was colour matched to Farrow & Ball Dimity for this interior. The resulting pale tone sits comfortably beside the darker timber and the exposed stone visible in the photographs.

The appearance changes as you move through the home. The light beside a rooflight brings out the surface movement; elsewhere, a wall reads more softly. This is why colour, texture and sheen should be considered together when choosing a decorative plaster. For a similar commission, a physical sample viewed alongside the room's materials is a useful starting point.

Arches, hallways and staircases

The arched opening between the kitchen and living area is one of the clearest details in the project. Marmorino follows the shape of the opening, connecting the two spaces through the same finish. A closer photograph shows the surface as it turns around the reveal.

In the entrance hall and staircase, the pale plaster sits alongside decorative cornicing, glazed doors and the stair balustrade. These views show how Venetian plaster can work with more detailed architecture as well as a contemporary kitchen and living space.

The staircase photographs also show the finish on narrow returns and taller wall areas, with changing daylight making the texture more apparent in some views than others. Together, the rooms demonstrate the effect of using Marmorino throughout an interior.

Working with the wider interior scheme

Interior design for the Marchmont project was by Samantha Harrison Design. The completed photographs bring together the plaster, timber joinery, stone, lighting and furnishings; the finish is seen as part of that wider interior.

For homeowners and design teams planning comparable work, the useful questions are practical as well as visual. Which walls and ceilings are included? What are the existing substrates? Where will the finish meet joinery or another material? What access and programme are available? An early conversation helps establish the scope before a finish is specified and quoted.

Planning Venetian plaster in Edinburgh

Unico Venetian works with homeowners, interior designers, architects and contractors on Venetian plaster projects in Edinburgh, the Lothians and across Scotland. The Marchmont home is a completed example of Marmorino used on all walls and ceilings; other projects may call for a focused feature wall, a ceiling or selected architectural details.

If you are considering a similar finish, share your project location, the spaces involved, approximate areas and the stage of the work. Photographs, drawings and material references help us discuss suitable options and preparation. Each project is quoted for its own scope.
